The African Historical Review is the successor to Kleio: A Journal of Historical Studies from Africa, which was published by the Department of History at the University of South Africa (Unisa) for more than thirty-five years. Originally conceived as a research and teaching forum for histories taught in the Department and to promote the work of students and staff, the journal has more recently been transformed into a publication in which high quality articles on a wide variety of historical subjects have appeared.
